Tom Brady and Peyton Manning will meet for the 15th time in their careers on Sunday when the Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. The Patriots are 10-4 with Brady at quarterback playing Manning-led teams. The two quarterbacks have been the kings of the AFC since Brady entered in relief of Drew Bledsoe in the third game of the Patriots 2001 season. The two will likely go down as the top two quarterbacks of a generation but who will leave the NFL with a greater legacy, Brady or Manning? Broncos receiver Wes Welker is one of just four men ever to catch an NFL pass from both Brady and Manning and the only one to catch more than four passes from both. Welker refused to compare the two at his press conference this week, saying, "Its like comparing Picasso and Michelangelo. Its hard to do." The comparison of the two, seeing as they play the same position, in the same conference and in the same league may not be quite as difficult. Mannings career downfalls have always come in the playoffs. With Manning under centre, the Colts exited the playoffs in their first game of the postseason seven times in 11 trips. For his regular season achievements, Manning was named NFL MVP in 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009. He is the only four-time MVP in NFL history. Despite all of his successes with the Colts, Mannings legacy with the team is overshadowed by just one Super Bowl victory - against the Chicago Bears in 2006. Manning threw for 247 yards in the game with one touchdown and one interception. He was named Super Bowl MVP. The Colts made it back to the Super Bowl three years later in 2009 against the New Orleans Saints. Manning threw for 333 yards in the game and one touchdown, however a crucial interception, down 24-17 late in the fourth quarter ended the Colts hopes for another Lombardi trophy. Manning signed with the Denver Broncos in 2012 and once again put up strong regular season numbers - 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He was named comeback player of the year and MVP runner-up. However, after a 13-3 regular season record, the Broncos lost in their first playoff game to the Baltimore Ravens in double overtime. In 2013, Manning came out impassioned and put up the best numbers of his careers, starting by tying an NFL record with seven touchdowns in a game in the Broncos season opener. Manning set NFL records in touchdowns (55) and yards (5477). The Broncos won their first game of the playoffs against the San Diego Chargers and earned the right to host the AFC Championship game. Brady started his career with great success, winning the Super Bowl three times in his first four seasons as a starting quarterback; twice being named Super Bowl MVP. However, Brady hasnt been crowned NFL champion since. In 2007, Brady had the best season of his career, throwing for a record 50 touchdowns passes while leading the Patriots to a perfect 16-0 record. Brady was named NFL MVP for his efforts. As the team approached becoming the first team in NFL history to go 19-0, they met the New York Giants in the Super Bowl. The Patriots lost 17-14 to Giants and Peyton Mannings younger brother, Eli, was named Super Bowl MVP. In 2011, New England reached the Super Bowl again and Brady was named the NFL MVP for the second time in his career. The Patriots once again played the Giants in the Super Bowl and once again lost. This season, Brady led the Patriots into the playoffs for a fifth straight season and after a decisive victory over the Colts in the divisional round, Brady is one game away from reaching the sixth Super Bowl of his career. Something no quarterback has ever done. Manning ranks above Brady in almost every career statistic. Manning also has the edge in league MVPs 4-2, however, Bradys three Super Bowl trophies loom large over Peytons lone victory over Rex Grossmans Chicago Bears. Theres little doubt that Brady and Manning will go down as two of the greatest passers in NFL history, but which quarterback will leave the NFL with the greater legacy, Manning or Brady? RENTON, Wash. -- After the Super Bowl celebration wrapped up, Seattle general manager John Schneider laid out his contract plans to Doug Baldwin. First on the agenda was getting an extension done with All-Pro safety Earl Thomas. Next was figuring out a deal with All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman. And lastly was getting Baldwin locked up. "It was kind of surprising at the end when he said it," Baldwin said. "I didnt believe him, to be honest with you. But here it is and it actually happened the way he said it would happen." The former undrafted wide receiver out of Stanford got his reward on Thursday when he signed an extension that will keep him with the Seahawks through the 2016 season. Baldwin will play the 2014 season under the second-round tender he received as a restricted free agent then will receive two additional years. The deal, first reported by ESPN.com, is expected to be worth up to $13 million over the three seasons. The second-round tender for 2014 is worth $2.18 million. "It all comes back down to what you value. In this game, your value is determined on the amount of money that they give you, but necessarily for me, the value that I wanted to get out of it, that varied," Baldwin said. "It wasnt necessarily just the money. It was the fact that I was able to stay here with an organization that I love, and teammates that I love." Much like Sherman, his teammate going back to college and close friend, Baldwin got his moment in the limelight, posing for pictures holding his jersey and thanking everyone who has helped along the way. Baldwin said he didnt want the attention of a formal news conference. But he did have a bottle of apple cider ready to pop in celebration. "To me this is just part of the process," Baldwin said. "This is not the end goal." Baldwin has proven to be invaluable for the Seahawks throughout his brrief career.dddddddddddd He was Seattles leading receiver as a rookie and after being slowed by injuries in 2012, bounced back with a standout season during the Seahawks title run. Baldwin had 50 catches in the regular season and five touchdowns in 2013 and was especially reliable on third downs. In the playoffs, Baldwin again came up big at key moments. He had a 24-yard, third-down reception in the NFC divisional playoff game that came one play before Marshawn Lynchs clinching 31-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of the 23-15 victory over New Orleans. In the NFC championship game against San Francisco, Baldwin had one of the best games in his career. He finished with six receptions for 106 yards and had an important 69-yard kickoff return in the third quarter that helped swing momentum. Baldwin added another five catches for 66 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl blowout of Denver. Its been a rapid rise for Baldwin, who went undrafted coming out of Stanford in 2011 and has used that slight as motivation throughout his career. Whether it was the talent of the Seahawks wide receiver corps being questioned or questions about whether he could be more than a receiver playing in the slot, Baldwin has not struggled to find motivation. He could be moving into an expanded role in Seattles offence in 2014. With the departure of Golden Tate in free agency, the Seahawks need to find a replacement to play outside. While most of Baldwins success has come as a slot receiver, he has played on the outside and was in that role earlier this week during the Seahawks first organized team activity. Seattle coach Pete Carroll took it one step further on Thursday by saying that Baldwin would be his starting split end. "Hell be all over the field," Carroll said. "Youll have a hard time tracking him down because hes capable of playing all the positions and all of the spots." ' ' '
